Born and raised on the North Pacific islands of Haida Gwaii, he melds his cultural and political experiences as an Indigenous person with contemporary graphic literature to produce a unique genre called Haida Manga. Subsequent books in the Haida Manga series include Carpe Fin (2019), JAJ (2023) and The Lost Haida Manga (2026). Yahgulanaas is also the author of Flight of the Hummingbird , A Tale of Two Shamans and Hachidori , a bestseller in Japan. His art has been displayed in institutions including the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian, and museums in Paris, Berlin, Japan and Canada. Yahgulanaas lives in Canada with his wife and daughter on an island in the Salish Sea, and has a studio in West Vancouver, British Columbia.
