"Though a righteous man falls seven times, he will get up again." – Proverbs 24:16 I've fallen more than seven times in my life—but each time, I got back up. In my first memoir, Who Am I , I told the story of my early years—of being orphaned in India during World War II, surviving beatings and starvation, and traveling on the tops of trains to escape a life of slavery. When I met Nelson Taylor, the RAF officer who saved me from certain death, I thought my hardest journey was behind me. But the truth is, that was just the beginning. As a child in India, I was free—free to live and free to die. Now, I was no longer battling day to day for my survival; instead, I found that both my struggles and my triumphs revolved around the self-definition of what it means to be a grownup. I Am Who I Am is the story of the life I built from nothing: a family and a legacy that will outlive me. It's about finding meaning not just in survival, but in love, fatherhood, and the quiet victory of perseverance. Through job losses and financial hardships, I've charted a winding path that brought me from India to post-war London to the Welsh coast, and finally across the Atlantic to Canada. Through it all, I've kept putting one foot in front of another, and those footsteps eventually brought me full circle to discover my origins. They say that if you travel far enough, you’ll meet yourself. Well, I’ll do them one better. I have finally travelled far enough to know Who I Am. My story is for anyone who has ever stumbled, fallen, and had to start over in life. I hold fast to one truth: resilience isn't just about standing tall—it's about rising up each time you’ve been knocked flat and turning your journey into an adventure.
