Glorify God by abiding in Christ to fulfill the Great Commission. This is Christ’s plan for all believers, especially those whom He sends out beyond their own communities to disciple unreached people and places. Acts demonstrates that Jesus went out with those whom He sent out to disciple the world. And according to His promise, He still does! In the Upper Room, the night before His crucifixion, Jesus made it His primary concern to prepare the apostles to understand what His presence would mean to them after Pentecost. Their continual walk with Jesus in prayer, the word, and His works ensured that they would bear glorious fruit in their fields of service, as well in their personal lives. The Upper Room discourses, especially John’s version, were Jesus’ spiritual preparation manual for the sent ones. The authors of the Gospels recorded these teachings of Jesus so that we, the twenty-first century sent ones, could also experience them. Applying these intimate, transformational teachings enable us to confidently fulfill Christ’s mission, while joyfully worshipping Him. Christ is increasingly glorified with multiplying fruit as we learn the full value of working with Him, instead of for Him. Go “UP” and experience the joy of being alive in Christ on mission.
