Donald’s Story is a first-hand account of the Battle of the Bulge by the men in Company C of the 106th Infantry, 424th Regiment, who actually fought in the Battle and ended up in Stalag XIIa and Stalag IIIa. The surviving men of Company C were gracious to share their stories, old diaries, and maps so that Donald’s Story could be told. Only stories or events confirmed by two or more of Company C’s survivors are included in the story, a means of providing authenticity to what was shared. The Battle of the Bulge, one of the most costly U.S. battles of World War II, has been written about and analyzed by the U.S. Department of Defense over the years providing the military’s version of events – something quite different from the versions provided by the men who were there and actually fought the battle. The facts presented by these men are quite different from the military versions of what happened during this Battle and provide a refreshing view of the Battle of the Bulge.
