This strange allegory of the birthing bed of the philosophers' stone was included in a book by Heinrich Nollius (1583-1626) a doctor, who from around 1606 published extensively on Hermetic philosophy. It remains uncertain as to whether Nollius was involved in its publication. This strange work contains an obscure and perplexing alchemical allegory about the birth of the Philosophers' Stone. It is suggested on the title page that it was originally written by an unknown Chevalier in French.
