Verse and Vision is me expressing my vision through poetry which is my love. The greats who have come before me have all shown us the world from their vantage via their brilliant verses, and it has shaped many of us. The power of words! As a native of the Cooper Road (a neighborhood in Shreveport, LA) my southern views shine through in each verse. However, as a formerly incarcerated man who spent 30 years and 7 months inside of Angola, my views are deeply rooted in righting the wrongs of an unjust system. I speak for all the voiceless men and women. There’s sadness in these verses due to the self-hatred inflicted on us by us. Sadly we as a people cannot get outside of ourselves where accountability is the subject, yet we don’t try to hold anyone else to the same standards. We, as a people, need to place our differences to the side and work together to build a better nation. We need to first LOVE AWAY THE BLACK HATE before trying to love away other people’s hate. We need to start by using words of care, concern, compromise and compassion.
