My Primas and Me: Experiencing Mexican American Feminism (Mexican American Daughter)($22.00Value)

Description

My primas were my Mexican American feminist teachers in covert and overt ways and manners. They loved their culture. I witnessed it. They loudly and proudly displayed their aspirational, familial, linguistic, navigational, resistant, and social capital. They confirmed it proudly. This was our cultural wealth. Our experiences were rooted in acculturated Mexican machismo and assimilated racist American patriarchy. We have lived on borders, physical, geographical, mental, and cultural ones. Our lives were bicultural and bilingual. We all lived rich bicultural lives. We all have cuentos to tell. We were both Mexican and Mexican American. Our bicultural life was our bilingual narrative. We all had these stories. All these cuentos were within us. They were our guides for survival and making it within our families and in the United States. We taught and learned from each other. We were more than cousins. They were my Mexican American feminist role models.
