Adam's Calendar: Inzalo y'Langa, the Birthplace of the Sun — The Complete Visitor's Guide($12.99Value)

Description

Older than the pyramids? A ring of stones on the roof of Africa — and the stories the world tells about it. High on the Mpumalanga escarpment above the misty village of Kaapsehoop, a cluster of weathered stones stands alone against the sky. Most travellers arrive knowing it by a single, electrifying name — Adam's Calendar — and the story that surrounds it: the oldest man-made structure on Earth, a calendar of the sun and stars, older than writing, whispered to be the work of the gods themselves. To many who come here it is Inzalo y'Langa — the Birthplace of the Sun. This fully illustrated guide is your companion to the whole of it: - The science — the ancient stone of the escarpment, the compass that will not behave, the sun, the shadow and the pointer stones, and what you can see and test for yourself on the ridge; - The real history — the stone-walled world of the Bokoni, how a civilisation was forgotten, and why Adam's Calendar sits apart; - The legends, told in full — King Solomon's gold and the Queen of Sheba, the Anunnaki and the sky-gods of Credo Mutwa, the Grave of Dumuzi, the Mother Stone and the humming, ringing rocks — each reported as legend, with its sources named; - The living site — why people still gather for the turning of the sun; - The practical guide — two guided ways to reach the stones, how to make the most of your visit, and sources for every story. We tell you which is which — and let the wonder stand on its own two feet. Written and photographed on the escarpment by Discover Kaapsehoop, an independent heritage initiative based in the village below the stones.
